ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell males’s hockey freshman goaltender Alexis Cournoyer has been named ECAC Hockey’s Rookie of the Week, the league introduced Monday morning (Nov. 10).
The weekly honor marks the second consecutive week a Massive Crimson participant has earned the award, as ahead Gio DiGiulian was the recipient of final week’s honor.
Cournoyer shined between the pipes in Cornell’s first two ECAC Hockey contests of the season, posting a 1.53 goals-against common and .947 save share whereas stopping 54 of 57 pictures in opposition to Harvard and Dartmouth.
The Trois-Rivières, Québec, native made 30 saves in Friday’s 3-1 victory over Harvard, together with stopping the ultimate 29 pictures he confronted. Mixed along with his 33-save efficiency in his collegiate debut in opposition to No. 13 UMass on Nov. 1, Cournoyer turned simply the fourth Cornell goaltender to open his profession with back-to-back 30-save outings, becoming a member of Corrie D’Alessio (5 consecutive, 1987-88), Jason Elliott (two, 1994-95), and Matt Underhill (two, 1998-99).
Cournoyer adopted with 24 saves in Saturday’s 2-1 setback in opposition to Dartmouth.
By way of three appearances, the freshman holds a 2-1-0 document with a 1.35 goals-against common and .956 save share, rating fourth and second nationally, respectively.
No. 17-ranked Cornell returns to Lynah Rink for a four-game homestand starting Friday, Nov. 15, when the Massive Crimson hosts Brown (1-3-0, 1-1-0 ECAC Hockey) earlier than dealing with Yale (2-1-0, 2-0-0 ECAC Hockey) the next night time.
